The deceased, a 48-year-old male named Daniel Straker from the Bronx, was shot in the back at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2023. The incident unfolded in front of 67 Macombs Place in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan.
According to police reports and video evidence, the altercation leading to the
shooting was an alleged robbery. Straker reportedly snatched a chain from the neck of another man. Shortly after this, the man from whom the chain was taken produced a firearm and shot Straker. Emergency services were called to the scene, and paramedics transported Straker to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Initially, no arrests were made at the scene, and the New York Police Department's investigation was ongoing. However, a week after the shooting, on Thursday, November 30, 2023, authorities apprehended a suspect. Victor Jones, a 47-year-old, was arrested in connection with the killing.
