In the Bronx, a borough known for its vibrant energy, the life of 25-year-old Daniel Lachapel was tragically cut short on the night of Saturday, May 11, 2024. A male resident of the area, Lachapel was fatally shot in the head just before midnight in the Williamsbridge neighborhood. The incident occurred outside his home at 690 Allerton Avenue, near the corner of White Plains Road.
Police officers from the 49th Precinct responded to a 911 call at approximately 10:53 p.m.
reporting a man shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Lachapel with a gunshot wound to his head. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, but their efforts were in vain as Lachapel was pronounced dead right where he had fallen. The area was cordoned off as authorities began their homicide investigation.
Residents of the building were left in a state of shock, with one neighbor recounting the terrifying moment she heard 'like 7 or 8 gunshots go off and people just started screaming and running everywhere.' This same witness reported seeing a black van speeding away from the scene immediately following the shooting, though it remains unclear if it was connected to the incident. Another resident expressed his disbelief, stating that 'Nothing like this has ever happened. '
As of now, the New York City Police Department has not made any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting of Daniel Lachapel. The investigation into his death remains active and ongoing.
