In the spring of 2014, a young man’s life was cut short on a street in the Bronx. Nineteen-year-old Quashawn Thomas was fatally shot on the evening of Sunday, May 11th. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the Williamsbridge neighborhood, specifically in front of a building on East 215th Street, near Barnes Avenue and just a short distance from the Agnes Haywood Playground.
Responding officers discovered Thomas on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene and transported him to Montefiore Medical Center. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators at the scene recovered seven shell casings, indicating that multiple shots had been fired. His death was ruled a homicide.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the New York Police Department launched an investigation into the death of Quashawn Thomas, who was a male resident of the Bronx. At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, and law enforcement had not publicly identified any suspects or a motive for the killing. While it was noted that Thomas had a history of twelve prior arrests for offenses including robbery and marijuana possession, there was no indication that these past incidents were connected to his death, and he was not known to have any affiliations with gangs. The investigation into the fatal shooting was reported as ongoing as authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest.
