In the early hours of Friday, February 13, 2026, a 26-year-old Middle Eastern man named Amir Ahmad was shot and killed in the Bronx, New York. The incident unfolded at approximately 12:20 a.m. in front of 660 Thwaites Place in the Allerton section of the borough. Police officers who were informed by Ahmad that he had been shot, transported him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Initially, authorities reported that three men
dressed in all black fled the scene, prompting a search for the suspects. The investigation into what appeared to be a robbery took a significant turn when police arrested three individuals in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspects were identified as 18-year-olds Wanderlin Mateo and Darlin Sanchez, and 23-year-old Anglic Encarnacion. All three face charges of murder, manslaughter, robbery, and criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
Further investigation revealed that the deadly encounter was the result of a pre-planned robbery that escalated. According to court documents, Encarnacion allegedly lured Ahmad to her building with the intention of purchasing marijuana. Surveillance footage and court filings indicate that after Ahmad arrived and was sitting in his BMW, a group of individuals wearing masks and gloves approached the vehicle. One of the suspects was reportedly recorded in an elevator prior to the incident stating that he had a gun.
When two of the suspects brandished weapons and ordered the occupants out of the car, Ahmad attempted to drive away. It was at this moment that he was fatally shot. While three suspects were taken into custody, authorities indicated that two other alleged accomplices were still at large at the time of the arrests. The killing was one of several violent incidents that contributed to a surge in gun violence in the Bronx during February 2026.
