In the early morning hours of a Sunday in the Bronx, violence erupted on Morris Avenue, forever altering the course of several lives. On September 29, 2024, 33-year-old Alvin Ortiz was fatally shot in front of an apartment building in the Kingsbridge Heights neighborhood. The incident, which occurred at approximately 1:07 a.m., also left another man, aged 36, wounded.
Responding to a 911 call reporting a man shot, officers from the 52nd Precinct discovered a chaotic scene.
Ortiz had sustained gunshot wounds to his left arm and chest. The second victim was found with bullet wounds to his left arm and wrist. Emergency medical services rushed both men to St. Barnabas Hospital. Despite their efforts, Alvin Ortiz was pronounced dead a short time after arriving. The 36-year-old man survived the attack and was reported to be in stable condition.
In the wake of the shooting, the New York Police Department launched a murder investigation. As of early October 2024, no arrests had been made in connection with the fatal shooting.
