On July 29, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Sandra Serrano, 44, was fatally shot on Randall's Island in New York City. The incident occurred near Field 71, close to a city-run migrant shelter where Serrano resided. She sustained gunshot wounds to her face and back and was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.
