In the summer of 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace of Randall's Island, leaving a family and community in mourning. On July 29, 44-year-old Sandra Serrano was fatally shot in the face and back in a brazen act of violence. The attack also left two others wounded; a 32-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the throat, and a 31-year-old woman was shot in the back.
