In a tragic end to what appeared to be a loving, two-decade-long marriage, 50-year-old Olga Ortiz was killed by her husband in a murder-suicide on June 22, 2020. The couple’s 21-year-old son discovered their bodies in their basement apartment on the Upper West Side of New York, NY, after he was unable to get inside.
Police were called to the residence at 320 West 87th Street and found both Olga Ortiz and her 72-year-old husband, Jose Tito Ortiz, with fatal gunshot wounds.
A firearm was recovered at the scene. Investigators determined that Jose, who worked as the superintendent of the building, shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Friends and neighbors of the Hispanic couple were shocked by the violent turn of events, describing them as deeply in love and often seen holding hands. They had two children together, a son and a daughter, and Jose had another daughter from a previous relationship. No signs of trouble or health issues were apparent to those who knew them. As the perpetrator was also deceased, the case was closed without any arrests.
