In the early hours of Sunday, September 8, 2024, a tragic shooting in the Laurelton neighborhood of Queens, New York, claimed the life of 24-year-old Nakender Bruno, a male disc jockey. The incident occurred at approximately 1:04 a.m. outside a residence on 220th Street near 133rd Avenue, where Bruno and his two cousins had just finished a DJing gig at a house party.
As the three men were loading their equipment into a van, an unidentified gunman approached them and opened fire.
Bruno suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the abdomen and was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His two cousins, aged 24 and 33, were also wounded in the attack. One was shot in the neck and the other in the torso; both were transported to area hospitals and were reported to be in stable condition.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. Investigators are actively searching for the gunman. A firearm that police believe is connected to the shooting was discovered on a nearby property. Surveillance footage captured the suspected shooter having difficulty opening a gate in a nearby yard shortly after the incident. The family of Nakender Bruno has expressed their shock and devastation, stating they are unaware of any reason why he would be targeted.
