On a summer afternoon in Queens, New York, a young Hispanic man's life was tragically cut short. Angel Caraballo, a 19-year-old male from Jersey City, New Jersey, was fatally shot on June 25, 2021. The incident unfolded around 1:00 p.m. in the Arverne neighborhood, leaving a community shaken and a family grieving.
According to law enforcement sources, Caraballo was seen entering a building on Beach 56th Place.
Moments later, he emerged, clutching his side, and collapsed three blocks away near 112 Beach 59th St. Officers from the 101st Precinct discovered him at that location after responding to a 911 call about the shooting. Emergency medical services rushed Caraballo to St. John's Episcopal Hospital, but his gunshot wound to the torso proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the New York Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Authorities released security camera footage showing two individuals they deemed "persons of interest" in connection with the fatal shooting. The footage captured the two men running down a stairwell at the scene of the crime. Police described one individual as a Black man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, and black sneakers. The second person of interest was also described as a Black man, wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers.
Despite the release of the footage and the public appeal for information, there have been no subsequent reports of arrests made or suspects identified in the killing of Angel Caraballo. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the case has seemingly gone cold, with no new information made publicly available in the years following his death.
