In the early morning hours of a summer Saturday, the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens was shattered by violence that claimed the life of 41-year-old Dwayne Belfield. On July 12, 2025, at approximately 8:12 a.m., Belfield was shot in the chest near the corner of 110th Avenue and Liverpool Street. A male, Belfield, who resided on East 27th Street in Brooklyn, was found by officers from the 103rd Precinct who were responding to a 911 call about an assault in progress.
Emergency medical
services arrived at the scene and transported Belfield to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The day before his death, Belfield had visited his favorite barbershop, a routine stop that gave no hint of the tragedy to come. Some reports described the incident as a drive-by shooting.
In the aftermath of the shooting, police detectives began an investigation, canvassing the residential area for evidence and seeking any information that could lead to a suspect. As of now, the motive for the shooting remains unknown, and no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
