In the early morning hours of August 31, 2021, the life of 28-year-old Broderick TreySean Trey Daniels was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The male victim was in the vestibule of his Hollis, Queens apartment building on 184th Street when he was shot multiple times in the torso. Police responded to a 911 call shortly after 1 a.m. and found Daniels unconscious and unresponsive.
Emergency medical services rushed him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the murder of Broderick Daniels, a father, stretched on for nearly a year before the first significant break in the case. The motive for the shooting was determined to be gang-related. In June 2022, authorities arrested 22-year-old Nasiem Pearson, charging him with murder and criminal possession of a loaded weapon. He was taken into custody at his own apartment building on 184th Street, the same location where the fatal shooting occurred.
Two months later, in August 2022, a second suspect was apprehended. Kingsley Ruffin, 21, of Jamaica, was also charged with murder in connection with Daniels' death. Both Ruffin and Pearson were residents of the Cedar Manor apartments. The investigation continued, and in October 2022, a third man, 22-year-old Jaquan Alston of Rochdale, was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. All three men were purported to be members of a rival street gang to that of Daniels.
