In the early morning hours of October 1, 2018, a dispute that began at a strip club in College Point, Queens, tragically culminated in the death of 25-year-old Jaquan Campbell. Campbell, a male, was with his girlfriend in his black Lexus sedan in the parking lot of the College Point Multiplex Cinemas when their vehicle was intentionally struck by a black BMW.
Four men, three of whom were wearing masks, emerged from the BMW and confronted the couple at gunpoint.
Following the collision, Campbell drove a short distance before stopping to inspect the damage to his car. It was then that the assailants pulled up beside them. An argument ensued between Campbell and the masked men. One of the men opened fire, shooting Campbell multiple times in the chest. His girlfriend, who was present during the entire ordeal, was not physically harmed. After the shooting, the attackers forced Campbell's girlfriend out of the Lexus, abandoned their own BMW, and fled the scene in Campbell's vehicle. Emergency responders arrived to find Campbell, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The stolen Lexus was later found abandoned a short distance away.
An investigation by the NYPD led to the arrests of three Brooklyn residents in connection with the murder. Daijan Palmer, 26, and Darvin Guiteau, 24, were apprehended about two weeks after the incident. The third suspect, 24-year-old Brandon Lee, was located and arrested in Miami, Florida, a week later. All three men were indicted on charges of second-degree murder, robbery, attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. Palmer faced an additional charge for tampering with physical evidence. Authorities also indicated that a fourth individual was in custody in another state, awaiting extradition to Queens to face charges in connection with the case. The three indicted men faced the possibility of 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
