On a spring evening in Queens, New York, the life of a 37-year-old Black man, Reggie Nat White, was tragically cut short. On April 22, 2017, police responded to a notification from the ShotSpotter system, a network of acoustic sensors that detects and locates gunfire, in Bayswater Park. Arriving at the scene near Bay 32nd Street, officers discovered White unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body. Emergency medical services pronounced him deceased at the park.
