On December 9, 2006, the Gainesville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1715 NW 32nd Place in Gainesville, Florida. Upon extinguishing the fire, firefighters found the bodies of Heather Radcliff, age 28, and her daughter Kira Radcliff, age 6, in the remains of the home. Evidence gathered at the scene indicated that both victims were deceased prior to the fire, which was intentionally set in an effort to cover up the murders.
