On April 3, 2023, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Kansas City police responded to a shooting at the Texas Tom's restaurant located near East 70th Street and Prospect Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found 29-year-old James Free'Mon Hill Jr. unresponsive in the carry-out section, suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead at the scene.
