On December 14, 2016, authorities in the Kansas City area were alerted to a violent incident involving a 25-year-old male named Lee David Dickerson III. Around 10:30 p.m. on that Tuesday night, law enforcement officers located Dickerson suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle near 119th Street and Newton Avenue in Grandview, Missouri. Although he was discovered in Grandview, investigators determined that the shooting had actually taken place earlier in Kansas City, specifically near the
intersection of 80th Street and James A. Reed Road.
Emergency responders transported Dickerson to a local hospital where medical personnel worked to treat his critical injuries. Despite their efforts over the subsequent days, he succumbed to his wounds and passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016.
