In the late morning hours of September 3, 2024, a dispute on Kansas City's East Side escalated into a fatal encounter for Tondre Turner. The 18-year-old man had arrived at a residence in the 9600 block of Ditman Way, where an argument erupted. The verbal confrontation quickly turned violent, leading to an exchange of gunfire between Turner and another individual.
When Kansas City police officers responded to the scene shortly before 10:45 a.m., they discovered both Turner and the other
man in front of the home, each suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency services transported both men to a nearby hospital for treatment. While the second man's injuries were considered non-life-threatening, Tondre Turner was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
A preliminary investigation into the shooting revealed that the two individuals involved knew each other. Based on witness statements and evidence gathered at the scene, detectives believe the incident was contained between the two men. As a result, they are not actively searching for any other suspects in connection with the shooting. The case marked the 108th homicide in Kansas City for the year.
