In the spring of 2023, the life of 31-year-old Sam Baldwin IV, a Black/African American male, was cut short in a burst of violence on the outskirts of Columbia, Missouri. On the evening of April 22nd, shots rang out in the 4300 block of West Bellview Drive, leaving Baldwin critically wounded. A 5-year-old child was also caught in the crossfire and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services rushed Baldwin to the University of Missouri Healthcare Center, where he fought for his life for three days before succumbing to his injuries on April 25, 2023.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a homicide investigation into Baldwin's death. Investigators have indicated that they believe multiple shooters were involved in the incident, suggesting a coordinated and violent attack.
