On May 3, 2023, at approximately 1:54 a.m., Springfield Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting behind a residence at 2304 N. National Ave. Upon arrival, they found 42-year-old Jimmie E. Johnson III lying in the backyard with a gunshot wound. Johnson was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
