On the night of October 6, 2014, police in Springfield, Missouri, responded to reports of gunfire in the 1800 block of North Weller Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Charles J. Cortez, a 21-year-old male, lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. At the scene, authorities also located a female victim, Shannon L. Gibson, who had sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the same inciden ...
