In the heart of summer, the life of 16-year-old Davondre Jarron 'DJ' Thompson-Baugher was tragically cut short. On the morning of June 21, 2024, Springfield police responded to a call about a shooting at a residence on East Linwood. Upon arrival, officers found the young man suffering from a gunshot wound. Davondre, a male born on October 30, 2007, was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries two days later, on June 23, 2024.
Known for his vibrant spirit, Davondre had a passion for Kansas City Chiefs football and expressed his creativity through rapping, bringing light and laughter to those around him. His sudden and violent death marked the fourth homicide investigation in Springfield for the year 2024.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police took a juvenile into custody. This individual was subsequently transported to the Greene County Juvenile Detention Center. The Springfield Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly presented the case to the Greene County Juvenile Office, which is responsible for determining what, if any, charges will be pursued against the young suspect.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have urged anyone with additional information to come forward. As the legal process unfolds, the community is left to mourn the loss of a young life taken too soon, remembering a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend.
