On June 23, 2020, officers from the Springfield Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence in Springfield, Missouri. The incident occurred around 2:03 p.m. at a home located in the 4120 block of West Kearney Street. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound outside the home. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim was identified as Alexander S.
Goeman, a 29-year-old male resident of Springfield. The investigation revealed that the deadly encounter was connected to an eviction notice involving the property. Detectives determined that the shooting transpired during a dispute related to this eviction process, leading to the fatal injury of Goeman.
Police identified a suspect at the scene, 40-year-old Daniel L. Smith, also of Springfield. Smith was taken into custody and arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm. In the days immediately following the shooting, homicide detectives continued their investigation and prepared to submit the case to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if additional charges, such as homicide, would be filed. At the time of the initial reports, no murder charges had yet been formally lodged against Smith pending that review.
