On the night of December 4, 2021, the calm of a residential area in Springfield, Missouri, was broken by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 11:07 p.m., local law enforcement received emergency calls reporting shots fired in the vicinity of South Fremont Avenue. Officers from the Springfield Police Department were dispatched to the scene, where they located a victim lying in front of a home at 2215 South Fremont Avenue. The individual, identified as 41-year-old male Trevor J.
Hale, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Detectives from the Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit initiated an investigation into the shooting, eventually uncovering evidence that linked the fatal event to a previous violent crime in the city. Investigators determined that the suspect involved in Hale's death was also responsible for a shooting that had occurred months earlier on August 18, 2021. In that prior incident, police had responded to a parking lot on South National Avenue where another individual had been shot and seriously injured but survived. By connecting these two cases, authorities were able to identify a primary suspect.
Months after the homicide, on April 4, 2022, police arrested 26-year-old Darius Adams and booked him into the Greene County Jail. Following the arrest, the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Adams, including first-degree murder for the death of Hale, first-degree assault for the earlier shooting, and two counts of armed criminal action. Adams was held without bond as the legal process began, with detectives continuing to request information from the public to assist in the ongoing proceedings.
