On May 20, 2023, 23-year-old Donell James was fatally shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex near 86th and Drury Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. Witnesses reported a disturbance involving a physical altercation between two women, both allegedly armed with knives. James was present to ensure that no one else intervened in the fight.
