On June 16, 2023, at approximately 11 p.m., Kansas City police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Linwood Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 47-year-old Dwight A. Thomas lying next to a vehicle that had collided with a building. Emergency medical services attempted life-saving measures, but Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene from apparent gunshot wounds.
