On the evening of January 17, 2023, law enforcement officials in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to the eastern part of the city following reports of gunfire. Just after 6:10 p.m., officers arrived at an apartment complex located in the 10300 block of East 42nd Street, situated just east of Pittman Road. The initial call, which began as a report of shots fired, was quickly upgraded to a shooting investigation as first responders assessed the scene.
