On the morning of September 2, 2023, Kansas City police responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of Drury Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found 28-year-old Leroy M. Purkett lying unresponsive in the street with apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
