On December 23, 2023, 30-year-old Black male Ahmad Guerin lost his life following a violent encounter in University City, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. The incident unfolded at a Circle K gas station located in the 7400 block of Olive Boulevard, where Guerin had arranged to meet with individuals, reportedly in connection with a transaction involving a firearm. Surveillance footage from the scene captured Guerin entering the backseat of a white Buick Sedan with tinted windows.
Shortly after entering the vehicle, a struggle ensued inside the car, leading to Guerin being shot. He abruptly exited the vehicle and collapsed in the parking lot as the car sped away westbound on Olive Boulevard. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Investigators immediately began piecing together the events leading up to the homicide. By analyzing Guerin’s phone records, detectives discovered communication between the victim and a specific phone number just prior to the meeting. This digital trail led police to track the suspect's phone to the 700 block of Baden Avenue, where they located the white Buick seen in the surveillance video. Further review of security footage from that area showed two men exiting the vehicle, one of whom was carrying a distinctive backpack that belonged to Guerin. Inside the recovered vehicle, officers found documents belonging to the victim, solidifying the connection between the car and the crime scene.
Two suspects were identified and subsequently arrested in connection with the robbery and murder. Authorities charged 20-year-old Ahmad Blackmon and 19-year-old Eddie Wafer Jr. with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and first-degree robbery. The investigation revealed that the suspects had conspired to rob Guerin of his handgun and backpack. During the robbery attempt inside the vehicle, a physical altercation occurred when Guerin realized what was happening, resulting in Blackmon allegedly firing the fatal shot. As of mid-2024, both defendants remained in custody with significant bonds set, awaiting further court proceedings.
