In the small community of Howardville, Missouri, a tragedy unfolded on the evening of January 15, 2024, that cut short the life of 45-year-old Shannon Babb-Mansfield. A White female, Shannon was discovered unresponsive in her apartment, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Law enforcement from the New Madrid County Sheriff's department arrived at the scene around 5:43 p.m. to find her deceased.
The investigation into her untimely death moved swiftly. In a nearby apartment, deputies located Shaundale T. Maxwell, a 45-year-old man. A weapon was also recovered from the location. The proximity and the discovery of the weapon led to Maxwell's immediate arrest in connection with the shooting.
Following his arrest, Shaundale T. Maxwell was formally charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is currently being held in the Mississippi County Jail without the possibility of bond as he awaits further legal proceedings in the death of Shannon Babb-Mansfield. The community was left to mourn the loss of a mother, daughter, and sister, as a family began the difficult process of navigating their grief while seeking justice.
