In the early morning hours of August 31, 2019, a grim discovery was made in a St. Louis neighborhood. Joe Anna Rosi Soptic, a 22-year-old female, was found deceased, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The circumstances of her death were particularly alarming, as her body was located approximately 50 to 75 feet from a box van that was fully engulfed in flames in an alley in the 2700 block of Belt.
St. Louis police had initially responded to a call for 'shots fired' at 4:34 AM.
The caller also reported the vehicle fire. Upon their arrival and after the fire department extinguished the blaze, they found Ms. Soptic's body nearby. Her death was classified as a homicide.
In the time since her death, there have been no publicly announced arrests or identification of any suspects in the case. Law enforcement and organizations like St. Louis Regional Crime Stoppers have periodically sought information from the public to help solve the case. Despite these efforts, the investigation into the death of Joe Anna Rosi Soptic remains open and unsolved.
