On the night of December 31, 2020, Chrishell Antonette Fulton, a 41-year-old Black female, was driving her GMC Yukon in north St. Louis County when she was involved in a car accident with a black Lexus on Shepley Drive. In the moments following the collision, gunshots were fired into her vehicle, leading to her death. The incident initially led investigators to focus on the driver of the Lexus, who was identified by three witnesses as the shooter.
However, the charges against this individual were eventually dropped six months later as the investigation evolved.
Further examination of the evidence uncovered new leads that shifted the focus of the case. Investigators discovered Facebook messages between the initial suspect and another man, Treshawn Fox, in which Fox inquired if police had found his gun or cellphone at the scene. This communication became a critical piece of evidence. Additionally, a firearm was recovered from a Chevrolet Impala parked near the location of the shooting. Ballistic analysis confirmed that this was the weapon used to kill Fulton, as the shell casings from the scene and the bullet recovered from her body matched the gun.
The investigation culminated in charges being filed against Treshawn Fox, a 22-year-old who was already serving a 15-year prison sentence for a separate 2021 murder. DNA evidence played a significant role in connecting him to the crime, as his DNA was found on the magazine of the recovered firearm. In October 2024, Fox was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with Chrishell Fulton's death. He is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond as the legal proceedings against him continue.
