The disappearance of Malik Jones, a 25-year-old Black male from Macon, Missouri, began on January 30, 2024, when he traveled approximately sixty miles south to Columbia to meet someone. When he failed to contact his family, which was described as highly uncharacteristic, his loved ones grew increasingly desperate and launched their own search efforts. For over a week, his mother and sister scoured the area where his phone had last pinged near the Columbia Mall.
Their search ended in tragedy on February 7, 2024, when his sister spotted something in a wooded area off the 6100 block of Creasy Springs Road North. Upon stopping the vehicle to investigate, they discovered his lifeless body, a grim find that immediately shifted the missing person case into a homicide investigation.
Law enforcement officials quickly began piecing together the final moments of his life, leading to the apprehension of a suspect later that month. Initially, the details were kept confidential because the accused was a minor. However, in September 2024, it was announced that the suspect, identified as Kavon La'Shaun Eugene Williams, would be charged as an adult. Court documents revealed that the meeting had been arranged for a marijuana transaction, but authorities allege the encounter was a setup intended for robbery.
Prosecutors formally charged Williams with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery, presenting evidence that painted a disturbing picture of the events. Investigators uncovered social media posts allegedly made by the suspect showing him brandishing money that appeared to be stained with blood, alongside a video where he reportedly boasted about the crime. While Williams remains held without bond at the Boone County Jail, the victim's family has expressed a strong belief that the teenager did not act alone, citing the victim's physical stature and the circumstances of the attack, though police have yet to announce additional arrests.
