On February 15, 2021, nineteen-year-old Jakob Cole was fatally shot in a residential area southwest of Columbia, Missouri. The incident occurred in the evening within the 4700 block of West Millbrook Drive, where officers from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Cole suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators learned that the shooting stemmed from a dispute over a small sum of money, reportedly forty dollars. According to court documents, the altercation escalated when a suspect exited a vehicle and fired several rounds at Cole before fleeing the scene. The investigation led law enforcement to identify multiple individuals involved in the confrontation.
In March 2021, authorities arrested two suspects in connection with the homicide. Malik Townsend, a twenty-two-year-old resident of Columbia, was taken into custody and charged with murder for his alleged role in the shooting. A second suspect, nineteen-year-old Tyreese Perkins, also of Columbia, faced charges of first-degree murder. The Boone County Sheriff's Department continued to manage the case as it proceeded through the legal system.
