On March 23, 2024, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Kansas City police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of 28th Terrace and Cleveland Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 29-year-old Lawrence D. Pickett lying unresponsive in a wooded area adjacent to an empty parking lot. He had sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
