On March 10, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Kansas City police responded to a shooting at a business in the 4800 block of Independence Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found 34-year-old Reginald McGee unresponsive in the parking lot, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Inside the establishment, they discovered 37-year-old Nicholas Lewis, also wounded by gunfire; he was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
