On the afternoon of July 10, 2024, a violent incident occurred in the Mark Twain/I-70 Industrial neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, leaving a young man critically injured. Around 3:50 p.m., officers from District 6 received a notification that a 24-year-old male, identified as Montrez Heart from Hillsdale, had been dropped off at a local hospital. Suffering from a gunshot wound, Heart was listed in critical condition upon arrival.
Due to the severity of his injuries, he was unable to provide a statement to investigators regarding the circumstances of the shooting or the events that led to his hospitalization.
Tragically, after fighting for his life for two days, Heart succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital on Friday, July 12, 2024. Following his death, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Division assumed control of the investigation. Detectives worked to piece together the timeline of the shooting, which was reported to have stemmed from a workplace dispute. Authorities urged the public to come forward with any information, offering potential rewards for anonymous tips leading to a resolution in the case.
In the week following the shooting, homicide investigators made significant progress, apprehending two individuals believed to be connected to the murder. On July 18, police arrested a 47-year-old man. The following day, the Circuit Attorney’s Office issued charges of Murder in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action against him. He remained in custody as the investigation continued. On July 19, a second suspect, a 51-year-old man, was also taken into custody by detectives, with investigators applying for charges shortly thereafter.
