On the evening of January 11, 2022, St. Louis police officers responded to a call regarding a shooting in the southern part of the city. Upon arriving at the 5300 block of South Compton Avenue in the Carondelet neighborhood at approximately 9:12 p.m., authorities discovered an unresponsive individual suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the victim, identified as 25-year-old male Isaiah Joseph Danfort, dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Danfort, a resident of St. Louis, had been shot multiple times.
Homicide detectives launched an investigation into the fatal incident, collecting evidence from the scene, including approximately 15 shell casings. Weeks later, on January 27, 2022, police announced the arrest of a suspect, Quinton T. Roberts, in connection with the shooting. Roberts allegedly admitted to detectives that he had shot Danfort with an AR-15 rifle. Initially, the Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Roberts with unlawful possession of a firearm, but upon further review of the case, additional charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action were filed against him.
The legal proceedings continued into the following year, where prosecutors obtained a grand jury indictment that revised the charges to second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful gun possession. In September 2023, Roberts reached a plea agreement with the court. He pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of voluntary manslaughter, a charge reduced from second-degree murder. Consequently, a judge sentenced Roberts to serve 10 years in prison for his role in Danfort's death.
