On the evening of November 9, 2024, a violent incident unfolded near Swope Park in Kansas City, Missouri, resulting in the tragic death of 39-year-old male Johnnie J. Sharp. Police officers were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. to the 5600 block of East 69th Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Sharp suffering from a critical gunshot wound.
He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
Born on November 7, 1985, in Kansas City, Kansas, Johnnie James Sharp was the son of Tashalyn Kinzey and Johnnie J. Harris Jr. He grew up in the area, attending Wyandotte High School before studying at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Sharp built a career as a driver for AAA Disposal Service, a role in which he took great pride, particularly after obtaining his Commercial Driver’s License. He was known by family and friends for his love of movies, superheroes, and spending quality time with his five children. His untimely death occurred just two days after his 39th birthday.
The preliminary investigation by Kansas City homicide detectives suggested that the shooting stemmed from an altercation between Sharp and another individual. Police indicated that the two parties were likely known to each other prior to the dispute escalating into gunfire. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, no suspects were taken into custody, and authorities appealed to the public for information through the TIPS Hotline to help identify and locate the person responsible. As of the initial reports following the incident, no charges had been filed, and the investigation remained active.
