In the warm evening hours of a mid-summer day in Newark, New Jersey, tragedy struck. On July 16, 2023, Lorenzo Boykins, a 52-year-old male, was gunned down in the city's Central Ward. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office reported that the shooting occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on the 300 block of Springfield Avenue. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Boykins suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was immediately transported to University Hospital for medical
attention. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Lorenzo Boykins succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The investigation into his death was promptly taken over by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force.
