In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Camden, New Jersey, the sound of gunfire pierced the quiet, leading to the tragic death of Maurice McCargo, a 44-year-old man. On February 24, 2024, at approximately 2:36 a.m., the Camden County Police Department was alerted to the shooting by a ShotSpotter activation in the vicinity of the 3000 block of South Congress Road. This was quickly followed by 911 calls reporting that a person had been shot in the same area.
Upon their arrival, officers found McCargo suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was promptly transported to Cooper University Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Maurice McCargo was pronounced deceased at 3:02 a.m.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department have initiated an investigation into the fatal shooting.
