In the early afternoon of a Sunday in June, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a Camden neighborhood, leaving one man dead and another wounded. Giovanni William DiGregorio, a 31-year-old male from Gloucester Township, was fatally shot on June 8, 2014. The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on the 3000 block of Essex Road, where DiGregorio sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services responded to the scene, but DiGregorio's injuries proved fatal. A second victim, a 24-year-old man, was also injured in the shooting. He managed to get to Cooper University Hospital by taxi for treatment of his injuries. The connection between the two victims was not immediately made public.
In the wake of the shooting, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide.
Authorities reached out to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Detectives from both the prosecutor's office and the city police department were assigned to the case.
