On April 10, 2024, at approximately 10:05 p.m., Newark police responded to reports of gunfire in the 200 block of Nye Avenue in the city's South Ward. Upon arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Al-quanim Za-quil Horne suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:36 p.m.
