Brielle Alston, a 31-year-old Black woman from Newark, was fatally shot late on the night of Sunday, July 28, 2024, near the intersection of 4th Avenue and North 12th Street. Newark police were called to the area at about 11:23 p.m. for reports of gunfire and found her suffering from gunshot wounds in the street. She was rushed by emergency responders to University Hospital, where doctors worked through the night but ultimately pronounced her dead at 1:20 a.m. in the early minutes of July 29.
