On July 28, 2024, at approximately 11:23 p.m., Newark police responded to a report of a shooting at the intersection of 4th Avenue and North 12th Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Brielle Alston suffering from gunshot wounds. She was immediately transported to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m.
