On a tragic evening in Newark, New Jersey, the life of 18-year-old McKayla Perri was cut short. On December 11, 2020, the recent Lyndhurst High School graduate was walking on Broad Street, near the intersection of 3rd Avenue, when she was fatally shot. Emergency services transported her to University Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead in the early morning hours of December 12.
McKayla was a promising young woman, a college student who had just begun her studies at Eastwick College in Nutley with aspirations of becoming an ultrasound technician.
The investigation into the shooting death of McKayla Perri was launched by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with her murder. In an effort to generate leads and bring justice for McKayla and her family, the Essex County Sheriff's Office has offered a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her death. Authorities have publicly appealed for anyone with information to come forward, assuring that all calls will be kept confidential. The case remains active and ongoing as law enforcement continues to seek answers in this senseless act of violence.
