On September 18, 2024, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Newark police responded to reports of gunfire at a supermarket on the 300 block of South 7th Street in Newark's West Ward. Upon arrival, officers discovered 26-year-old Nakiyyah T. Blue, a resident of Bloomfield, New Jersey, unresponsive inside the store, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Blue was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:57 p.m.
