On a tragic Monday evening in Newark, New Jersey, a shooting incident claimed the life of 41-year-old Latoya Miller-Kone. The unfortunate event unfolded on May 22, 2023, at approximately 8:08 p.m. in the 900 block of 18th Avenue. Miller-Kone, a resident of Irvington, was discovered at the scene with gunshot wounds.
Emergency services promptly transported her to University Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival at 8:30 p.m. The incident, which also left two other individuals injured, is being investigated as a triple shooting.
A man from East Orange and a woman from Newark were also victims of the gunfire, though their injuries were reported as not life-threatening.
Authorities have reported that a gunman approached the location and fired nearly two dozen rounds before quickly leaving the scene. As of the latest reports, the investigation into the homicide is active and ongoing. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is leading the inquiry. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and law enforcement continues to seek information from the public.
