On February 7, 2023, 26-year-old Nekaybaw Ernestine Scott was found deceased in her Newport News, Virginia apartment. Officers conducted a welfare check at her residence in the 4300 block of Newsome Drive after concerns arose due to her unresponsiveness. Upon arrival, they discovered her body with a fatal gunshot wound to the shoulder and torso.
