On the evening of April 27, 2023, in Richmond, Virginia, 40-year-old Marcus Carron Dobson was found unresponsive in a grassy area near a parking lot at the Belt Atlantic Apartments on Midlothian Turnpike. Richmond Police had responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 9:08 p.m. and discovered Mr. Dobson, a Black male, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries that same night.
A resident of nearby Henrico, Mr. Dobson was remembered by family and friends as a kind and caring person who had a passion for working on cars and cherished time spent with his loved ones. He was a graduate of Huguenot High School's class of 2001. In his youth, he was baptized at Sharon Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, his son, a sister, and a godchild.
Following an investigation into the homicide, Richmond Police arrested 36-year-old Travaris Williams of Richmond on May 19, 2023. Less than a month later, on June 5, 2023, a grand jury indicted Mr. Williams on charges of first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with Marcus Dobson's death.
