In the early morning hours of May 3, 2023, a violent altercation at a gas station in Richmond, Virginia, tragically cut short the life of 32-year-old Ckristofer Tyler of Chesterfield. The dispute escalated to gunfire, and Tyler was shot. Following the shooting, Tyler entered his SUV and attempted to drive away but crashed into a cement truck on the 1100 block of Richmond Highway.
When police officers responded to the crash at approximately 6:31 a.m., they discovered Tyler inside his vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation led Richmond Police detectives to identify three individuals in connection with the homicide. Their investigation was aided by regional and federal partners. The suspect vehicle was located and stopped after a pursuit initiated by the Hopewell Sheriff's Department. Two of the suspects, Isabelle Battle and Demond Williams, were quickly taken into custody. A third suspect, Xavier Brown, fled the vehicle on foot but was later apprehended by law enforcement, including the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Virginia State Police, and the Prince George County Sheriff's Department.
Following the arrests, Richmond Police charged all three individuals. Isabelle Battle, 19, of Chesterfield, was charged with grand larceny. Xavier Brown, 22, of Richmond, and Demond Williams, 39, of no known address, were both charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Authorities indicated that additional charges were pending. The investigation also revealed a connection to another case, as the suspects were found in a stolen car belonging to a missing man whose body was discovered days later.
