In the early hours of May 10, 2023, a dispute between two co-workers at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, escalated into a fatal shooting. Ty'Quan White, a 25-year-old male employee, was shot and killed by his colleague, Christopher Boisseau. The incident occurred in a stairwell of the hospital just after midnight.
An altercation between White and Boisseau, who both worked as housekeepers, reportedly began over a disagreement about their work duties, specifically a trash
assignment. During the argument, Boisseau produced a firearm and shot White. Despite receiving immediate medical attention at the hospital, White succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, Boisseau was taken into custody by police at the scene without further incident. He was initially charged with maliciously shooting within a building, but the charges were later upgraded. Boisseau faced a trial for first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
During the trial, Boisseau claimed that he acted in self-defense. However, in September, a jury found him guilty of the lesser charge of second-degree murder, as well as the firearm charge. In December 2023, Christopher Boisseau was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the death of Ty'Quan White.
